EMAIL #15 - 1st, October, 2018 - Three months left in 2018

Hi Team,

Is 2018 turning out the way you had hoped or planned? If not, you have only got three months to do something about it...

For me the answer is definitely yes. So far this year is turning out just as I planned. Despite several delays and hiccups we now have five projects under construction and two more due to start before the end of the year. This is a huge step up from last year and 2019 is looking like being another growth year.

My main focus at present is on our capacity to get the new jobs up and running and the completion of Simpson St, and Howitt Rd. Something I am now well aware of, that greatly affects our collective work capacity, is the individual initiative of all our team members. In a team, initiative is vital to success and can be even more important than experience.

Initiative can be defined as "doing the right things without being asked", or "making independent decisions, then acting on it". It is universally recognized that your individual initiative is one of the main determinants of your own success and it is the number one trait that employers look for when recruiting new employees. The importance of initiative is summed up in the following quote.

"Without initiative, leaders are simply workers in leadership positions", Bo Bennett.

The question I would like to pose is; how can DDB encourage its individual team members to consistently use their own initiative day to day? I will be raising this question at the next October Management Meeting and Team Meeting and will value your individual input.

I would also like to follow up on your task from the last team meeting; which was to identify tasks in your job role that would benefit from a new checklist or system, then to write up a checklist for two of these tasks. I have not yet received any task lists or checklists and will expect these either in writing or by email by the end of this week.

Thanks for reading,
David.
