EMAIL #07 - 30th, JULY, 2018 - Leadership

Hi Team,

Until fairly recently I had never really thought of myself as a leader. However after reading a new book "Why Leaders Eat last" by Simon Sinek, and having had several discussions with my business coach on this topic, I now accept that my primary role moving forward is to be the leader of the DDB team.  But what does this really mean?

The key message from Simon Sinek's book is summed up in the following quote.

"Leadership is all about trust. Building trust requires nothing more than telling the truth." I have also learnt that to be an effective leader you must be comfortable being yourself, which in today's world can be quite a challenge. The following quote conveys this feeling beautifully!

"To be yourself in a world that is constantly trying to make you something else is a great accomplishment." Ralph Waldo Emerson.

Team work is all about working together to achieve a common purpose. To ensure that we are all pulling in the same direction, I must have a clear understanding of what our team's purpose is? This idea of us all having a common purpose is a big one and something we will explore and discuss at the next DDB Team Meeting. To learn more about this topic, Luke and I are attending a full day conference on "The Future Of Leadership" on the 9th August.

Now that we have four projects under construction (and with Will away for the next 10 days) we will all be challenged to work across several job sites and help each other out each day. So our team work will be well tested over the next few weeks?

Thanks for reading,
David
