EMAIL #02 - 10th, June, 2018 - Rules of the Game
Hi Team,
I hope you are all enjoying the long weekend as much as I am?
Today I have the luxury of time, so bear with me as this email will be a little longer than normal.
I would like to start with a bonus quote to acknowledge the passing of one of my favorite media celebrities, Anthony Bourdain.
"As you move through this life you leave marks behind, however small. And in return life - and travel - leaves marks on you. Most of the time those marks on your body and your heart are beautiful. Often though they hurt."
Anthony Bourdain - RIP.
Today and for the next few weeks I would like to focus on DDB's core values, or "The Rules Of The Game".
Below is a great quote that speaks to the importance of having a set of meaningful values.
"Values will get you through hard times and good times. They are the things that give meaning and purpose
to what you do", Barack Obama.
As you should all know by now DDB has five core values that guide how we all should do our jobs.
1. INTEGRITY = we always do what we say we will do.
2. COMMUNICATION = timely, open and well articulated always.
3. KAISAN = constant small improvements to everything we do.
4. TRANSPARENCY =to be open and honest throughout.
5. PRIDE =be proud of everything we build.
However for these values to really be meaningful and influence what we do they must become part of our daily decisions, tasks and routines. So at next weeks DDB Team meeting we will all be doing an evaluation exercise to see how well we are doing in regard to these five core values in our individual job roles and as a team. I did this exercise recently with my business coach and found it extremely usefull and enlightening and I am looking forward to sharing this insight with you all next Friday.
A good way to look at these core values, is that they are "the rules of the game". Your job or profession and business in general is like playing a game of football. It is very hard to be a good player or team member if you do not fully understand the rules of the game and abide by them at all time during the game.
Also, for the Team Meeting remember to be on time and silence your phone, otherwise $2.00 into the cookie jar! (This is specifically designed to reinforce core values 1 + 2).
Thanks for reading,
David.
