EMAIL #54 - 8th, January, 2020 - 2019 IN THE REAR-VIEW MIRROR
Hi Team,
Happy New Year and welcome to 2020!
One of the best things about holidays and some time off work is having some time and space to look back and reflect on the last year and all that has been accomplished at DDB. I have also been thinking a lot about some of the challenges and problems we have encountered over the last year and what have been the most important lessons I have personally learnt in 2019? So after some deep thinking and gazing into the "rear-view mirror", here are my Personal Top Three Lessons from 2019.
1. The most important thing I can do as a business owner and leader, is to teach others what I know. This idea has been a slow realization rather than a "light bulb moment" after researching and writing many weekly emails and the persistence of my business coach David Guest. Lucky, I have a teaching background that is finally starting to pay off!!
"The best thing a human being can do is to help another human being to know more." Charlie Munger
2. To be successful in business or life in general you must have a clear understanding of your own personal values. For me 2019 has been all about Values. Throughout the past year I have spent a lot of time defining, clarifying and applying both ”DDB's core business values" and my "own personal values".
"Values are like fingerprints. Nobody's is the same, but you leave them all over everything you do."
Elvis Presley
3. The life changing effects of doing a 28-day detox diet. Last February, Maryanne and I did a 28 day "plant only" based detox. Not only did we both loose a significant amount of weight, but we have also adopted several other permanent eating habits as a direct result of doing this detox such as; having only a green smoothie for breakfast, not eating anything after 8.00pm and eating hardly any bread.
A reminder that, "Everyone is only one decision away from a totally different life", Mel Robbins.
