EMAIL #40 - 12th, August, 2019 - LIFE IS A GRAND ADVENTURE
Hi Team,
Now that we are a few weeks into my dialog on "self improvement" I thought I would do some reflection to consider what I think are the keys to leading a fulfilling life. Although I have covered several of these factors in previous email's, I think now is a good time to pull them all together so you can see that self improvement is the common thread that runs through all of these factors.
"Your life is a grand adventure, or it is nothing", Helen Keller.
So at the risk of being a bit self indulgent; here are my four key factors to leading a fulfilling life.
1. Follow your passion, understand what you are curious about and know what gets you out of bed each day? This takes a degree of self awareness and reflection and is something most of us are constantly learning how to do.
2. Be persistent and develop resilience. Unfortunately there is no substitute for consistent hard work. (For me this is the big one and the single most important contributing factor to my long term success.)
"When you knock on the door of opportunity, don't be surprised that it is hard work who answers", Brendon Burchard.
3. Don't be afraid to take risks. One of my favorite sayings is "fortune favors the brave". How you handle fear in life will ultimately determine how far you go and what limits you put on your self. Everyone is now quite familiar with "goal setting" but very few are familiar with "fear setting". Fear setting is the "flip side" to goal setting which requires you to analyze what is holding you back from achieving your goals and then planning how to overcome these roadblocks or hurdles that are getting in your way. Overcoming fear is a significant part of "self improvement" and a topic I will revisit in coming weeks.
4. Never stop learning. "Going to bed smarter than when you woke up" is Warren Buffett's simple formula for success and this is what self improvement is all about! How we can each achieve this on a long term daily basis is one of life's biggest challenges and this is something that definitely gets me out of bed each day.
To finish off this week there are two important reminders;
- This Friday we are finally having a much awaited site BBQ at Omar st starting between 1.30 & 2.00pm so please remind all contractors to attend. (Let's try to make this the biggest site BBQ yet!)
- If you haven't created a personal Linked in profile yet (or don't know how?) please contact Julia.
Thanks for reading,
David.
