EMAIL #37 - 22nd, JULY, 2019 - SELF IMPROVEMENT
Hi Team,
Thank you all for attending the social dinner on Friday night. It was such a great night and it totally reinforced what a great team of people we have at DDB and how lucky I am to have you all in my team.
Today I would like to introduce the next subject area I will be writing about for the next month or so; Self-improvement. But before I dive into this topic, I would like to outline “my central philosophy about running a building company”.
DDB’s mantra is, “excellence through constant improvement” but where does all this constant improvement come from? I believe it must come from within us all. So, the only way to achieve team excellence is by every team member striving for and investing in self-improvement.
“The best time to plant a tree was 20 years ago. The second-best time is now.”
Ancient proverb
My central philosophy about running a building company is,
What I love about building.
- I absolutely love the whole process of designing and building houses.
- I love the difference that a DDB house makes to our clients life.
- I love the constant challenge of running a successful building company.
- I love learning and improving my own knowledge and leadership.
- I love helping others and teaching what I know.
What I believe about building.
- Building or renovating a home should be one of the most rewarding and enjoyable experiences of your life.
- Most people have legitimate fears about building and renovating which adversely affects them making life changing decisions.
- The best way to overcome our clients fears and reservations are,
- To offer freely available, up to date informative information to help educate them about building and to overcome the fear of the unknown.
- To have the best possible reputation.
- To have a well-recognised and highly regarded brand.
What is vital to DDB’s success.
- Teamwork is our biggest competitive advantage.
- As a team we must always,
- Do what we say we will do.
- Strive to improve what we do.
- Enjoy what we do.
- Everyone’s primary focus at work should be to make everyone else’s job easier.
This central philosophy informs every significant decision I make in running DDB, in how I invest my own time and in how I approach my own self-improvement.
I am looking forward to discussing this topic with you all at the DDB Team Meeting next Friday.
Thanks for reading,
David.
